Arts and Humanities Research Council funding

I am pleased to announce that my PhD research project at the University of Glasgow was awarded a full scholarship by the Arts and Humanities Research Council . My research focuses on behavioural attitudes in the performance practice of Italian music during the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries.

Album recording first edit

The first edit of our recording project with countertenor Meili Li, cellist Lucia Capellaro and harpsichordist Pawel Siwczak has just arrived. Sounding great so far, we are looking forward to hear the final version. Stay tuned!

Brighton Early Music Festival performance

The early music ensemble Ars Eloquentiae have been selected to participate in this year’s Brighton Early Music Festival Young Artists scheme. Our programme ‘Sex, lies and violins’ is based on Laurence Sterne’s A Sentimental Journey Through France and Italy and features works by Marais, Philidor, Leclair, Corelli and Vivaldi. The performance will be held in the Latest Music Bar on 1 November.

BBC Radio 3 performance

On 29 October I will appear on BBC Radio 3’s InTune with the early music ensemble Ars Eloquentiae. I will play works by Anne-Danican Philidor and Johann Sebastian Bach. If you miss the live performance, the broadcast will be available on the radio’s website for another month!

Album recording

From 25 to 28 August I will be working on a new album with countertenor Meili Li, cellist Lucia Capellaro and harpsichordist Pawel Siwczak. The recording will be in Hamburg with Syrinx production company.

Michelangelo Drawing Blood at the Edinburgh Festival

From 7 to 15 August I will be performing Charlie Barber’s music-theatre work, Michelangelo Drawing Blood with the contemporary music company, Sound Affairs within the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Performances will be held at Paradise in Augustine.

Contemporary music workshop at the University of York

On 23 May, I will lead a contemporary music workshop for the recorder students at the University of York. The focus will be on tackling general technical challenges, commissioning new pieces, and collaborating with composers.

Judgement of Paris recording launch

In early March the world premier recording of Daniel Purcell’s Judgment of Paris with Spiritato! under the direction of Julian Perkins will be available on Resonus Classics. The album launch will be held at St John’s Smith Square, London on 5 March.

Chinese Tour

From 9 to 20 December I will be touring throughout China with countertenor Meili Li, cellist Lucia Capellaro and harpsichordist August B. Guan. Our programme will include pieces by Corelli, Händel and Bach. The highlight of the tour will be our performance in Beijing, in association with Southern Weekly’s ‘Chinese Dream’ award ceremony, which will be broadcast nationwide.
